Last year was certainly not easy for anyone. The pressures of
the pandemic mounted up, putting an unprecedented strain
on critical fleet service delivery organisations and the vehicle industry as a whole. The global supply chain shortage put pressure on manufacturers, increasing vehicle build and lead times. The industry will have to deal with the consequences of this worldwide issue for many years to come. At the same time, we have to deal with the driver and mechanic shortage, further impacting service delivery.

North Northants Council replaces waste and recycling fleet

The new unitary authority, North Northamptonshire Council, is updating its waste and recycling fleet with a vehicle replacement programme comprising over 110 vehicles.

Specialist Fleet Services (SFS) was awarded the contract to provide and maintain the vehicles and workshop management services. Previously, SFS worked for Kettering and Corby Borough Councils, both of which are now part of the newly formed North Northamptonshire Council and Wellingborough and East Northants Councils.

NRG and RTR deliver the first Electra RCV in the South West to MJ Church

NRG Fleet Services and its hire division Riverside Truck Rental (RTR) have supplied Wiltshire-based waste disposal, plant hire and civil engineering company MJ Church with the first Electra fully-electric refuse collection truck in the South West. The RCV will save six tonnes of CO2 from going into the atmosphere each year, according to calculations from manufacturer Electra Commercial Vehicles.

Local population growth, increased recycling quantities and extensive new residential developments have led Hambleton District Council to expand its refuse and recycling collection fleet with vehicles part-powered by electricity to reduce carbon emissions.

Halton Housing, Widnes, renews its vehicle contract hire framework

Halton Housing, a Northwest housing association with over 7,000 homes across Widnes and Runcorn, has recently completed the re-tendering of its vehicle contract hire framework. The framework will last for four years and covers a range of vehicles from small cars to 26-tonne refuse vehicles and plant and specialist vehicles.
