Contract extension for SFS

Spelthorne Borough Council has extended its contract with SFS for another seven years, including maintenance, to replace the council’s current waste, recycling, and street cleansing fleet.

This is the second contract award by the council to Specialist Fleet Services, and it commences in June 2023.

SFS provides a complete range of vehicle hire and fleet management services to the public and private sectors, including contract hire, vehicle maintenance, workshop management, technical advice, and consultancy.

Cllr Richard Barratt, Chair of Spelthorne Council’s Neighbourhood Services Committee, said: ‘We are delighted to have signed a new seven-year contract with Specialist Fleet Services for 17 new vehicles and maintenance. We have a strong working relationship with SFS and look forward to continuing to work together to provide reliable and cost-effective refuse services for the residents of Spelthorne.’

Bob Sweetland, Managing Director, SFS, said: ‘We have built a great working relationship with Spelthorne Borough Council. We have invested significant resources into gaining an in-depth understanding of the council’s operational needs and used our many years of experience to provide a ‘perfect fit’ fleet, which is well maintained to maximise vehicle availability and keep services running efficiently.’

Next stop Preston for CTS Hire eRCV

SFS also provides short-term vehicle hire through its rental division CTS Hire, which has recently added two 100% electric refuse vehicles to its rental fleet.

The vehicles, both Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide electric rear-steer chassis with the Dennis Eagle OL21 body and Terberg Xtra bin lift, are proving popular with councils across the UK, allowing them to trial this kind of electric vehicle technology.

Duncan Coward, Head of Waste Management, Preston Council, said: ‘CTS Hire has provided us with the perfect opportunity to have an electric RCV for an extended period to gain a deeper understanding of this type of vehicle without being committed to a long-term purchase.

‘We can also get some insight into Renault electric vehicle technology, and when we do come to purchase an electric vehicle, we will be in a much better position to understand what we want. The teams at CTS Hire and Renault have been constructive, and the whole process has been simple and painless.’

Bob Sweetland, Managing Director, CTS Hire, said: ‘The electric vehicles are getting booked rapidly as word spreads. It’s a great opportunity for councils to see how these vehicles perform in their collection environment and what the transition from a diesel fleet to an electric fleet may require operationally and from an infrastructure perspective.’

CTS offers a wide range of high-quality FORS, LEZ and DVS-compliant vehicles featuring the latest technological and safety enhancements, supported by a 24/7 national mobile engineer and workshop network. The fleet includes 3.5-26-tonne refuse collection vehicles, specialist recycling vehicles, caged tippers, and hook and skip loaders.
