Fundraising kicks off for OWL4BOWELS bike ride

EPIC Media Group’s 20th anniversary golf day has raised more than £1,000 for Bowel Cancer UK, and the OWL4BOWELS charity bike ride aims to multiply this twentyfold. Sponsors and support crews are needed to make this epic effort a success, so please get in touch.

The EPIC Media Golf Day was held on a scorching day in September at Weald of Kent Golf Club in Headcorn, Kent. However, the temperatures didn’t deter golfers attending from all over the waste and logistics industry or from digging deep to raise money for Bowel Cancer UK in memory of Jon Miles, who worked in the industry for 30 years.

The Golf Day saw representatives from all over the waste and logistics industry attending, including contractors, local authorities and vehicle manufacturers.

Kevin Murton, Senior Business Advisor for EPIC Media Group, commented: ‘We’re delighted with how much money we raised for Bowel Cancer UK at our event. Thank you to all the players and sponsors for their kind donations. It gives us a brilliant starting point for all the future fundraising we will do for this worthy cause.’

The OWL4BOWELS charity bike ride will take place over three days in June 2024 (26-28). It will cover 150 miles of coastal cycle paths, taking in stunning views along the coast of Belgium and The Netherlands.

There are just a few spaces left for cyclists, but it still requires a support crew. The support crew is a crucial team looking after the cyclists on tour. Their role involves transporting the luggage, checking cyclists in, and supporting them with technical issues.

Vince Dignam, Business Performance & Transport Group Manager, City of London Corporation, and co-organiser of the OWL4BOWELS bike ride, says: ‘It is great to be involved in this charity event in June 2024 and to help raise money for a good cause in memory of Jon Miles. As a founding member of the charity bike rides in 2015, I took part in our maiden event, completing London to Paris in four days and raising over £20,000. So we hope to hit this target or more in 2024, nine years on and our fifth bike ride for charity. We have a great industry, and people who get involved by riding, support crews, drivers, and sponsors, and the camaraderie is amazing, so get involved.’

Ann-Marie Knegt, Editor of Fleet Vision International and one of the organisers of the charity bike ride, comments: ‘The OWL4BOWELS bike ride has already raised £1,000, thanks to generous donations at the EPIC Media Golf Day. We want to raise this amount twentyfold for the worthy charity Bowel Cancer UK. For this reason, support crew and sponsors are invaluable. We need organisations to help us with technical assistance, support vans, and sponsorship for ferries, food and insurance.

‘In the past, when we organised bike rides for charity, we raised thousands of pounds for good causes. We also built relationships that stood the test of time and became not just work colleagues but friends. So, your help is invaluable to us. Please join us to raise money for a charity close to our hearts. Everyone knows someone affected by bowel cancer, so please join our fight.’

OWL4BOWELS has fantastic sponsorship opportunities for interested companies, including support vans, ferries, restaurants, insurance, technical assistance, water bottles, shirts, cycle gear, etc. If you would like further information, please email [email protected]
