On April 17 2025, Ziegler Brandweertechniek BV and the Airport Fire Service of Groningen Airport Eelde (GAE) signed a contract for the delivery of three new Z6 aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicles. Following a Europe-wide tendering process, Ziegler Brandweertechniek emerged as the favoured supplier.
Since 2023, GAE’s airport fire service has been stationed directly at the airport in a new, modern fire station. Due to their age, the previous fire engines were increasingly maintenance-intensive, and the supply of spare parts was becoming more difficult. Therefore, a new procurement was unavoidable.
The delivery of the new Z6 vehicles will modernise the vehicle fleet and increase operational readiness and safety at the airport in the long term.
Rob van den Bergh, Manager of Airport Operations GAE, explains: ‘We are delighted to be working with ZIEGLER and to have signed this contract. The new vehicles are significantly more environmentally friendly and efficient than the previous ones – something we attach great importance to at our airport. We are really looking forward to the new vehicles!’
The Z-Class airfield firefighting vehicles are among the most successful in the world. They have proven themselves at numerous international airports with their powerful, user-friendly technology and uncompromising reliability.
Mélarno Kraan, Account Manager ZIEGLER, says: ‘It fills us with particular pride to be able to realise this order for the airport in our home region. Our tried-and-tested Z-Class vehicles are equipped with the latest technology and fulfil all internationally applicable safety standards. In future, they will make an essential contribution to safety at Groningen Airport Eelde. We look forward to a successful collaboration.’
The vehicles are scheduled for delivery at the end of 2026.
