Technical training centre for Dennis Eagle and Terberg Matec

Dennis Eagle and Terberg Matec UK have opened a new Technical Training Centre in Warwick, helping to maximise the impact of Dennis Eagle RCVs within local communities while helping to overcome the industry-wide skills shortage.

Dennis Eagle has opened a new Technical Training Centre at its headquarters in Warwick. Dedicated to educating and upskilling RCV drivers and crews, the facility will help customers derive more value from their vehicles through in-depth instruction on proper operation, safe working procedures, preventive maintenance, and more.

The company and its trading division, Terberg Matec UK, have joined forces to provide this specialised training from a single centralised location across its portfolio of products. The 4,900m2 unit houses multiple interactive spaces, a practical area, a display area, and a new customer-experience suite.

A dedicated hub for customers and employees to enhance their knowledge of the company’s industry-leading technologies, safety features, and vehicles, the Technical Training Centre will give students important hands-on experience across its entire range of RCVs, specialist recycling vehicles, and bin-lift systems. Courses promise to seamlessly blend practical and theoretical content to reinforce learning and build confidence in real-life scenarios, with bespoke testing rigs and equipment aligned with the course material.

An essential part of this transformative, blended approach is the introduction of an exclusive career-pathways programme that provides customers with a tailored, flexible learning journey crafted to their individual needs. These pathways vary widely depending on which Dennis Eagle or Terberg Matec UK product range is being specialised in, with Accredited, Skilled Technician, and Master Technician courses available.

Official opening

The Technical Training Centre had its official launch at an opening ceremony on Tuesday 21 October. Customers and members of the press were greeted with an introductory welcome talk from Dennis Eagle Aftermarket Director Geoff Rigg. A tour of the headquarters’ manufacturing facilities followed, along with several taster sessions across the new building’s four training rooms, offering a brief insight into the course content.

‘This evolutionary approach to training is a critical change for the future of our business,’ says Geoff. ‘The combination of expert-led theory with hands-on practical experience creates impactful, long-lasting value for our customers and ensures their operators have the confidence to apply what they learn out in the real world.

‘By centralising our training offering at the new Technical Training Centre, customers gain the benefit of having both Dennis Eagle and Terberg Matec UK technical expertise at their disposal. Our unrivalled industry knowledge and firmly established heritage mean there is no one better placed to provide effective, enduring, high-quality training that helps develop sector-leading engineers.’

The centre will provide technical training for Dennis Eagle’s growing customer base and internal training for its employees and new starters. This aims to support professional growth, enrich knowledge, and sharpen essential skills, offering a vast array of engaging courses delivered by seasoned experts committed to excellence.

More than just knowledge

Alongside the Technical Training Centre, the new facility will also help to support Dennis Eagle’s growing operations in the UK by increasing its operational capacity. This includes an area of the building devoted to the inspection and handover of vehicles to customers, ensuring the RCV build meets their full requirements.

‘The newly opened facility provides the footprint and scope to help bolster our growing operations and further enhance our customer proposition,’ says Keith Day, Managing Director, Dennis Eagle. ‘As well as increasing the space required to support production growth, it will allow us to showcase our world-class vehicle capability through interactive presentations, practical activities, and engaging environments, enabling customers to get hands-on with our products in a safe and controlled way. With an experience centre ideal for vehicle handovers and several areas dedicated solely to training, the expansion will act as an essential step forward in improving practical product knowledge and safety awareness among our customers and staff.’

The expansion of the company’s facilities is anticipated to create a number of new jobs in the local area, including roles for engineers, technicians, training, and administrative employees. Keith says: ‘The new building further demonstrates our commitment to investing in Warwick and the UK, supporting new jobs in the area, providing a positive boost to the economy, and continuing our vital work towards creating safer, cleaner communities.’

The building has also become the new home of the company’s aftermarket and HR teams. ‘The move to our newly refurbished facility marks an exciting new beginning for our aftermarket team,’ says Geoff Rigg. ‘The team is settling nicely into the new office space and is already making good use of our brand-new service managers’ meeting room. Designed to foster growth and innovative thinking, this space will allow new ideas to take shape, collaboration to thrive, and our people to come together as one team.’

Enhancing education through e-learning

In addition to the in-person learning experience made possible by the new Technical Training Centre, Dennis Eagle and Terberg Matec UK also offer the opportunity to receive all-important operator instruction via an online e-learning portal at no charge to the customer.

A prerequisite across many of the company’s courses, this digital approach to delivering operator instruction enables instant, on-demand access to the latest course content. Learning is convenient, flexible, and timely. Fully certified, the learning portal also provides full, essential traceability for fleet managers. A further benefit of digitising operator instruction is the seamless transition from the initial delivery of a customer’s RCV to operation.

‘We’re passionate about ensuring our customers receive their training in the most convenient and efficient way possible,’ says Alice McCabe, Training and Development Officer at Dennis Eagle. ‘Having a digital option for operator instruction means this portion of the training programme is more accessible and versatile, allowing customers to complete it at their own pace. For the more complex and specialised technical training modules, our Technical Training Centre is the ideal face-to-face solution.’

The new Dennis Eagle and Terberg Matec UK Technical Training Centre is now officially open for business, and a comprehensive training schedule is in full swing, enabling customers to gain even greater value from their vehicles and systems while adhering to safe working practices.
